July 2026 – This year, Alpe d’Huez makes cycling history

Two stages, two different atmospheres!

The schedule is exceptional:

Friday, July 24 – Stage 19: Gap → Alpe d’Huez (128 km) Short, intense, and explosive, this stage will start in Gap and tackle the Bayard, Noyer, and Ornon passes in quick succession before charging up the legendary 21 hairpin turns (13.8 km at an average gradient of 8.1%). The climbers will try to make their move, and the overall favorites will need to stay on their toes with just 48 hours to go before Paris. Just imagine: stepping out of your chalet in a matter of minutes to take your place along the roadside and watch the peloton pass by just a few meters away. A breathtaking stage!

Saturday, July 25 – Stage 20: Bourg-d’Oisans → Alpe d’Huez (171 km) This is the queen stage, the most formidable of the 2026 Tour. Over 171 kilometers and nearly 5,600 meters of elevation gain, the riders will tackle a grueling series of mountain passes: the Croix de Fer, the Télégraphe, the Galibier (2,642 m, the Tour’s highest point)… before reaching Alpe d’Huez via the Col de Sarenne. A first-of-its-kind climb for a first-of-its-kind finish. Anything can still happen with just 24 hours to go before the Champs-Élysées. And after the effort, there’s nothing quite like retreating to your private spa or terrace overlooking the peaks to savor the moment.

Alpe d’Huez and the Tour: A love story that has lasted since 1952

Since Fausto Coppi’s historic victory in 1952, Alpe d’Huez has been inextricably linked to the legend of the Tour de France. Its 21 numbered turns, each named after a stage winner, have seen riders like Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Marco Pantani, and Miguel Indurain pass through…

This year, a new chapter is being written. Never before in the history of the Tour have two consecutive stages both finished at Alpe d’Huez. Being there, staying on site, means becoming part of this history.
